Please help me figure out if I have TSS.

  • 2
I had flu like symptoms for 16 days last month (fever, chills, sever body pain, loss of appetite, dehydration, weakness, extreme fatigue and diarrhea). I went to the doctor on day 8 and was told I did not have the flu that I had bronchitis and was given antibiotics. I got better for almost 2 weeks and my symptoms are back all of them

It does not seem to be toxic shock syndrome. First, it is very rare. Toxic shock syndrome has been associated primarily with the use of superabsorbent tampons. However, since manufacturers pulled certain types of tampons off the market, the incidence of toxic shock syndrome in menstruating women has declined. I do not know why your doctor diagnoses you with bronchitis, since your do not have symptoms of coughing.

It’s hard to say. It sounds like TSS as you have been affected by signs and symptoms of toxic shock syndrome such as fever, chills, sever body pain, loss of appetite, dehydration, weakness, extreme fatigue and diarrhea. However, I don’t know whether you have some risk factors. Typically, TSS has been associated with:

Having cuts or burns on your skin

Having had recent surgery

Using contraceptive sponges, diaphragms or superabsorbent tampons

Having a viral infection, such as the flu or chickenpox.
