Yes. Lungs appear black in a rib X-ray. For the same reason, ribs show up in a chest (lung) X-ray.

I annotate an X-ray with greenish arrows. They indicate ribs. There are too many ribs in the X-ray and the 3 arrows are just a small part of them. The black area in the chest is the lungs.
