Are You Drinking Enough Water?

  • 1

Have you been drinking enough water? According to the CDC, the answer may be no for many Americans. While the official recommendation is 8-12 glasses of water each day, the average American adult consumes only 5 glasses. However, drinking water is one of the best things you can do for your overall health.

Why do you need to drink enough water?

You’ve probably been told to drink enough water for health. But what exactly does hydration do to your body? Below are some proven benefits of staying hydrated.

Clear your skin

Upping your intake of water has been found to rid the body and skin of toxins. It can also keep your skin soft and smooth when used alongside a moisturizer and other skincare products. A study of 2,000 Brits shows that more than a quarter of respondents find they have much clearer skin on the days they have more H2O.

Increase the feelings of fullness

Drinking more water may help you feel less hungry by filling you up, thus leading to less food intake. In the end, better hydration overall may help you to manage your weight.

Refresh your mind

Coffee isn’t the only thing that perks you up when you’re languid. Next time when you’re in a slump, try a glass of water and get refreshed immediately.

Remove waste from the body

Water helps the kidneys to filter toxins and waste. It also helps the body to recover from digestive problems, such as diarrhea and indigestion.

Tips for staying hydrated

Staying hydrated is a simple but effective way to support your health both physically and mentally. However, it often happens that you fail to meet your daily hydration goal. Maybe you’re too busy to drink water, or maybe you just dislike the taste of tap water. For whatever reason, try the following tips to make sure you get enough H2O.

Make it your daily routine

Eight to twelve glasses of water may seem like an unattainable goal, but it would be much easier if you split it into several parts throughout the day. You may drink a glass of water when you wake up, one to two cups of water at each meal, one cup during a workout, and another one post-workout. Make it your daily routine, and you can get sufficient water intake with ease.

Hold a bottle close

Always keep a reusable water bottle and sip on it all day in case you forget to drink water out of a busy schedule.

Add flavor to make it more appealing

Maybe you’re reluctant to drink more water because of the taste of water. In that case, drop a few slices of lemon, lime, or cucumber in your glass for a natural flavor.

Never say no to the various health benefits of staying hydrated. If you’re not drinking enough water, get started and make a difference now!
