Genital warts are soft growths that appear on the genitals. They may occur as a cluster of warts, or just one wart. For females, these warts may appear on the cervix and both inside and outside of the vagina and anus. HOWEVER, genital warts may also appear around or inside the MOUTH if someone has had oral sex with an HPV infector.
The top of genital warts may look like a cauliflower, and may feel smooth or slightly rough, BUT they can also be INvisible to the human eye – they may be very small and the color of the skin (or slightly darker). In this case, they may cause symptoms such as vaginal discharge, itching, bleeding, and burning.
Genital warts are caused by HPV. And HPV infection is especially dangerous for women because some types of HPV can lead to cancer. If you suspect that you’ve developed genital warts, or was sexually exposed to HPV infectors, contact your doctor immediately.
