There are a number of factors that can influence survival rates, particularly for men with advanced prostate cancer. These can include:
- Stage of cancer
- Race
- Age
- Disease progression
- Tumor grade
- Disease recurrence
- Smoking

As you can see from the table above, your time depends on whether your prostate cancer has spread. For example, if the prostate cancer is confined to the prostate (localized), then you have nearly 100% chance of surviving at least 5 years. This is also true if your prostate cancer has spread to surrounding organs, such as the bladder or the rectum. However, if your prostate cancer has spread distantly, such as spread to the bones, the lungs, the brain, then you have only 31% chance of surviving 5 years.
