Has your left ankle been exposed to something, such as poison ivy? If no, then you might need to see a cardiologist and see if your heart is affected by COPD. Another possibility is a blood clot in your left leg, which could cause ankle swelling.
Just one ankle swelling? Not both ankles? Well, you may need to get a leg ultrasound scan to see if you have a left leg blood clot. In general, ankle swelling caused by COPD or a heart problem involves both ankles.
