My mother was a diabetic and started hurting in her stomach and back ,losing weight and being nauseous. Her gastroenteritis did 5 colonosospy on her within a year and couldn't find what was wrong it took a private doctor to order a PET test on her to find she was already in stage 4 of Pancreas and Liver Cancer , she lived almost a year in misery with chemo and finly died on. June 20 2009. I hate cancer with a passion ,my mother was only 64 too young to have lost her life. There needs to be a better early detection...
I'm so sorry for your loss, Ms. Stewart. Currently, there's no effective way to screen Pancreatic cancer for general population, but there're ways of screening e.g. CT scan that is recommended to high-risk people. Patients above the age of 50 who have new onset diabetes are at higher risk of having pancreatic cancer. People who have two relatives with Pancreatic cancer, one of which is first-degree(in your case, mother) are at higher risk.
I'm so sorry for your loss, Charlene. My dad had a tumor marker over limit last summer, it's a marker for digestive tract, maybe stomach, maybe pancreas. I had him done every test, all come out clear. We re-test the tumor marker every 3 months, his dr. said if the tumor maker goes up significatnly we go through all the tests again. It's now around 40-45, the limit is 36, dr. said if it goes to 100 we re-test. I'm worried so much.
So sorry for the loss if you're Mother. May GOD BE WITH YOU &COMFORT YOU ON THE RUFF DAYS OF MISSING YOUR MOTHER. YOU WOULD THINK WITH ALL THAT GOES ON IN TECHNOLOGY AND in the world today they could find the answer to help or cure All kinds of Cancer. I don't know what's wrong with me.
Charlene, I am soooo sorry, understand completely (I've lost a Pepe at 62 to this awful disease, a cousin in his early 60's, a great grandmother I never got the pleasure to meet (because she was so young when DX'd) and most recently an Aunt of 49 years with 3 young kids!!) I've been checked for the gene and was negative thank God, but they will still follow me closely! This DX is so fast, hard and mortality rate is so low because of lack of early detection!!!!! Wish I knew you, I think an awareness of this 3arly decection needs to get out to the public! Hold strong, I how to hurt inside!
