My 20-year old daughter is getting tested for glandular fever; her symptoms are fatigue, very swollen lymph nodes in the throat (to the point, at times, it is very ddiffficult to swallow), and abdomen pain typically in the morning. Can you indicate what the treatment options are? Thank you.
Hello, most of glandular fever cases are related to EBV infection, EBV infection may cause fatigue, swollen throat, swollen lymph nodes, swollen liver and enlarged spleen, the blood test will tell. For virus infection, there's no special medication, antibiotics might be used to manage the infection with the throat, analgesics and antipyretics are commonly used for the pain and fever. The infection usually lasts for weeks to 2 months to cure on its own. Things that might help include drinking fluids to stay hydrated, and getting plenty of rest to boost the immune.
Understand the anxiety as a parent and I hope your daughter will recover soon
