Panniculitis is a group of conditions that cause painful bumps, or nodules, to form under your skin. Patients may notice painful or tender bumps. They might also have body-wide symptoms, such as fatigue, fever, joint and muscle pain, abdominal pain and weight loss. You doctor may order a biopsy, a blood test, chest X-ray in diagnosis. Medicines are usually used to treat panniculitis, including antibiotics, hydroxychloroquine and steroid drugs. Sometimes the bumps will heal on their own without treatment with enough rest.
