Treatment for osteomyelitis and foot infection
Hello, the general principle of acute osteomyelitis treatment is anti-inflammatory and surgical drainage pus, chronic osteomyelitis is mainly surgery. Either way, you need to go to the hospital to check the source of the infection and the extent of the disease.
I have chronic osteomyelitis, my treatment is to be on antibiotics for life.
All the doctors told me it would.  I talked to the chief surgeon but I don't remember his name.  He just said there was no way of knowing how long I would live.  Two other surgeons said the infection would pop up again in other places until there wasn't anything left to amputate.  So after four amputations I signed up for hospice.  I want them to help me and my family understand what's happening to me and to help keep the pain under control.  Apparently I have had this for many years and just never knew what caused all the pain.
Hi, Penny, I am really sorry for all the things you have endured. You still have pain after amputation? Is it phantom pain? Phantom pain is pain that feels like it's coming from a body part that's no longer there. Doctors once believed this post-amputation phenomenon was a psychological problem, but experts now recognize that these real sensations originate in the spinal cord and brain. Although phantom pain occurs most often in people who've had an arm or leg removed, the disorder may also occur after surgeries to remove other body parts, such as the breast, penis, eye or tongue.
