It is recommended to eat foods with low iron content, like:meat, eggs, some vegetable. besides how high is your hemoglobin? do you know the reason? have you see a doctor?

@Mahi It's low. You should do tests to find out. Is the morphology of red blood cell normal? Any obvious or occult bleeding in the digestive tract? I encourage you to see a hematologist, he/she will do tests to locate the underlying cause.

Hi, Bobby. The common causes of a sudden drop in hemoglobin is blood loss, which can occur because of: Bleeding from a wound; Bleeding in your digestive tract, such as from ulcers, cancers or hemorrhoids, and Frequent blood donation.

What would cause a sudden (<two weeks) drop in hemoglobin to 5.8 with no detectable bleeding as the cause? I’m a 42 yr old otherwise healthy female.

Women of childbearing age are high-risk groups of anemia, reasons: menorrhagia, malnutrition, gynecological diseases, and so on. Of course, you should go to a hematologist to determine what type of anemia you have.

Hemotocrit (HCT), 50.9% is okay. Normal range is 42% to 52%.
