Two kinds of medicines can be used for the treatment of migraines: Medicines to stop a migraine. These are sometimes called abortive medicines. Medicines to prevent migraines.   • Beta-blockers, such as propranolol.

  • Calcium channel blockers, such as verapamil.
  • Histamine.
