Hemophilia is a type of bleeding disorder. Patients with this disease lack or have inadequate amount of certain proteins called “clotting factors”.
Altogether, there are 13 types of clotting factors. These clotting factors works with platelets to form blood clots. As a result, patients with hemophilia tend to experience persistent bleeding.
Clotting factors are the main causes of hemophilia. The severity of hemophilia also depends on the amounts of clotting factors. Based on the criteria, the severity of hemophilia can be classified as mild, moderate and severe.
