The most common polycystic kidney disease in children is
Autosomal Recessive Polycystic Kidney Disease, or called ARPKD. This disease is usually immediately found on newborn infants.
Many grape-like cysts may grow on the infants kidneys. The number may increase or the cysts may grow bigger. Eventually, these cysts will destroy the normal working of kidney tissues ,
causing high blood pressure and even kidney failure.
ARPKD can be a fatal disease. It may affect the liver, spleen, pancreas and other organs of the body.
Symptoms of the disease usually appear shortly after birth. The infants may experience the following:
- High blood pressure
- Urinary tract infections
- Frequent urination
