Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition affecting your bones and muscles. Sometimes symptoms emerge after a surgery, infection, physical trauma or psychological stress. In other cases, symptoms gradually develop with no single triggering event. Besides aches all over, common symptoms also include:
  • Muscle pain, burning, twitching, or tightness
  • Low pain threshold or tender points
  • Draining fatigue
  • Trouble concentrating and remembering
  • Insomnia or not sleeping well
  • Feeling nervous, worried, or depressed
Fibromyalgia often occurs with other painful conditions, such as:
  • Irritable bowel syndrome
  • Migraine and other types of headaches
  • Interstitial cystitis or painful bladder syndrome
  • Temporomandibular joint disorders
While there is no cure for fibromyalgia, a variety of medications can help control symptoms. Also, exercise, relaxation and stress-reduction measures may help a lot.   Keywords: are signs fibromyalgia, arthritis fibromyalgia symptoms, fibromyalgia chest pain, fibromyalgia signs, fibromyalgia symptom checklist, fibromyalgia symptoms, fibromyalgia symptoms+, fibromyalgia syndrome symptoms, signs fibromyalgia, signs symptoms fibromyalgia, symptoms fibromyalgia
I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in 2006. I had been in widespread chronic pain and suffering from extreme fatigue since 2004 it took 2 yrs bunches of tests before I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I cried and cried. I had never heard of it so when I found out that’s what I had I read everything I could find on it. Mainly depressing and bad information. I was never going to be normal again. There is no pill to make U well. There are medicines to help some of the symptoms. I would never be able to work again. I couldn’t stand up long enough to was a sink full of dishes. I thought about suicide. I had been a very independent person. I had raised my three daughters alone. Deadbeat fathers. But I didn’t complain I had them they were my responsibility also so if the fathers didn’t wanna help they had to live with that not me. I worked 3 jobs worked 2 and 3 weeks without a day off. Kept my home and cars spotless always on the go. I was ADHD then in young 20s a lot of traumatic things happened and I was diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder. I was so upset that I was going to have to take a pill to be normal from then on. I never got sick. Then at 40 yrs old I have a chronic illness that had disabled me. No cure they pushed all these antidepressants on me anxiety medicines when I kept telling them that the one med my family had put me on helped all the problems that they wanted to give me several pills for. They had terrible side effects. They actually realized I had fibromyalgia after getting hit by a tick that gave me a terrible rash that turned out to be Rocky Mountain spotted fever and they found I had Lyme disease that was old. They said the Lyme disease brought the fibromyalgia out and caused me to have it like an 80 yr old woman. The doctor said your born with fibromyalgia and it slowly takes over your body causing different problems and imitating other diseases that u don’t have just some of the symptoms. I believe this. Looking back I remembered from a child having unexplained problems. Terrible leg aches. A nervous stomach by the time I was six. All of a sudden having allergies to foods I’d always ate. Even the anxiety disorder. If u look it up most ppl with anxiety problems end up being diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. In the last 15 yrs fibromyalgia has almost totally disabled me. It has done all it can do to me. Even my skin hurts now. I stay sick on the stomach I have symptoms of irritable bladder IBS symptoms. Diabetes symptoms but when tested I don’t have the diseases the fibromyalgia imitates these diseases. I stay in bed for days I don’t go out much. I also have back problems and a broken neck from car wrecks. Pain management does a procedure called radio frequency. It puts the nerves to sleep for months that these old injuries are damaging these nerves. It took yrs to find a doctor to help me. He gives me a strong pain med to help with my back and neck problems and the fibromyalgia. They will keep telling you narcotic pain meds don’t help fibromyalgia. Bull shit. I didn’t sleep for weeks anymore because of pain I was hallucinating a zombie. Almost bed ridden. When you have no quality of life anymore they have to help U. It’s sad. I know there’s no better for me I have accepted my limits but I make myself get out some and be as normal as possible. If not and u give up Fibromyalgia will cripple you up. I take a med to help stiff and sore joints sand pinched nerves narcotic pain med and anti anxiety med. I try not to complain it could be worse. It could be cancer Parkinson’s disease or other terminal illnesses.dont let ppl trick u into these miracle drugs they are rip offs. Fibromyalgia is a terrible disease with no cure they aren’t even sure what causes it. I read one article where your born with it and the part of your brain that tells you your in pain is not developed right and I really think that’s the problem
You're such a fighter. Your experience makes me think I should really be positive about my life.
I've read about one fibromyalgia case that doctor treated with suboxone along with gabapenten and it turned out to be very effective. Another case is about diet, one said she had keto diet for years and her pain were all gone. I don't know the accuracy of these info, espeically the second one. I just hope to help.
My primary dr recommend pain management....he said he does not treat fibromyalgia. Now what? I need pain relief and energy desperately before I lose my job. If anyone has any good info please help.
I have the burning pain in my legs for the last 4 years. It gets so bad that if I don't take anything I even can't walk. I have found that taking Ulrtam  4 times a day (250mg pills each dose) helps greatly. Medication with codeine also works. Now I have to take the tablets as soon as I wake up in the morning and wait about 30 minutes before I can do anything.  Hot baths could be useful for intensive pain.
This disease is nasty and notorious. Not much can be done. Probably you can take cortisone for energy restoration and ibuprofen for pain relief.
Is it a progressive disease?
Fibromyalgia doesn't get worse over time although you may sometimes experience flare ups. A combination of regular exercise, psychotherapy and appropriate medications can alleviate pain symptoms.
I have been trying to find out what is causing this awful burning sensation in calf area on fleshy outside area. Your post is first time I have found any mention. Have you anymore info or relief for it.  Thank you.  Jan
Keep an eye on this and if the burning continues it may be the beginning of DVT. This is very painful and I have had it for over 2 years. Mine started with a sudden onset of calf burning sensation and leg swelling. The pain was worse when the leg was hanging down. There was warmth to the area because the veins were inflamed. I am on coumadin (warfarin) as a blood thinner. I also take Tizanidine and Lyrica. This helps the nerve pain and I can walk some now. Good luck to you.
Your response really hit home. I had weird illnesses and was treated for IBS as a kid and depression that was blamed on the parents divorce when I was 9. Maybe you’re right that we are born with it. I can definitely see events that would’ve triggered it now. Thank you!
It took me 4 Doctors and 7 yrs before I then went to Psychiatrist for depression because of fibromyalgia .I printed out symptoms of fibro took it to him put it on his desk and said this is what I have. My two main symptoms where Chronic fatique and widespread pain .He put me on Adderall xr. That was my lifesaver .It seemed to help with pain somewhat being more active. Diagnosed at 42 now 56 and still taking meds. Painkillers for back injury do not take my fibro pain away though. Primary Doctors do not like to diagnose fibro. I went to 4 of them before Psychiatrist diagnosed me. I hope this helps. This disease had brought my life to a halt.  Lost 7 yrs of life could not function lost marriage and job. Be persistent and pushy when going to Doctor.
I'm having back pain from time to time for 9 months now. Don't know what it is, don't know what to do.
I do not know what it is either. If I were you, I would see a doctor and get tested for common causes for back pain, such as muscle strains, disc herniation, spinal stenosis, spurs, etc.
Get a new doctor. Some doctors are like climate deniers... They just don't 'believe' in fibromyalgia.
I was diagnosed with Polymyalgia Remonaca two years ago and been on steroids for the two years. I just found out that I have fibromyalgia now. I’m almost off my steroids and now starting with severe pain headaches I’m almost off my steroids and now starting with severe pain ,headaches and irritable bowel syndrome also waking up many times at night in pain.  I’m not on any kind of medication yet.  I’m so scared to know I’ll have this the rest of my life. Please give me some info that I can do to help myself.
Hi, polymyalgia rheumatica and fibromyalgia are very similar. Polymyalgia rheumatica is diagnosed more frequently in certain seasons. This suggests that something in the environment, such as a virus, may play a role. Some illnesses such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and other autoimmune disorders are associated with higher incidence of fibromyalgia. Post-traumatic stress disorder and other emotional or physical traumas have also been linked to fibromyalgia.

Medicines may be one option that your doctor suggests to combat the discomfort of polymyalgia rheumatica and fibromyalgia, but they’re not the only thing that can help. An anti-inflammatory diet, regular exercise, and good sleep can make a big difference in managing symptoms.
I have had it for the past five years and no one understands it unless they have it. My family never believed I was sick... I have a lot of pain because of it. Sometimes it aches all over, as if I had done a major workout in the gym. I always feel extremely stiff after sitting or standing still for some time. Besides, I am sensitive to even clothes touching me, let alone any person, which makes me kind of hard to access.
