A pulmonary embolism is a blockage in one of the arteries of the lungs. It is caused when a piece of a blood clot is located or travels through the bloodstream and lodges in one of the arteries that supply the lungs. Even if the clots are small, they will damage the lung. But if they become large and stops blood flow to the lung, it can be deadly.   Related FAQs: http://healthtopquestions.com/?p=1467 http://healthtopquestions.com/?p=1477 http://healthtopquestions.com/?p=1646
