Streptococcus agalactiae, a type of bacterium, can cause Group B strep meningitis. It can be found in the vagina or intestinal tract. Heathy people develop immunity as soon as they were born, so most babies don't get infected even if 10-30% pregnant women carry Group B strep (GBS) bacteria. Still, the majority of GBS patients are newborns because their immune system is not fully developed. Symptoms:
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Difficulty waking
  • Fever
  • Poor feeding
  • Arched back
  • Vomiting
  • Blotchy skin
  • Rash that don't fade after being pressed
  • Seizures
If you suspect your child is infected, seek medical help immediately.   Keywords: meningitis strep; strep meningitis
