In brief, vitiligo is a condition in which white patches develop on the skin. Any location on the body can be affected. Also, most people with vitiligo have white patches on many areas. What are the causes? In fact, we don't know exactly the cause of the condition. It might be an autoimmune condition. It means your body's defenses turn on your own cells instead of attacking invading germs. What are the symptoms?
  • Patchy loss of skin color
  • Premature whitening or graying of the hair on your scalp, eyelashes, eyebrows or beard
  • Loss of color in the tissues that line the inside of your mouth and nose
  • Loss of or change in color of the inner layer of the eyeball
Vitiligo can start at any age, but often appears before age 20. See your doctor if areas of your skin, hair or eyes lose coloring. While vitiligo has no cure, treatment may help to stop or slow the discoloring process and return some color to your skin.   Keywords: vitiligo, define vitiligo, vitiligo definition, vitiligo+

So your doctor thinks that it is not vitiligo? Can you show me a picture? White patches are not necessarily all vitiligo; they could be other conditions, such as fungal infections. Vitiligo can appear on the armpit. Watchful waiting is a reasonable approach.
I have developed the disease since I was 2 months old. None of my family has had this disease before and all of them are in very good health condition. As I search on the Internet, I read that there could be a possibility that the one with vitiligo will end up developing lupus which is life-threatening. Honestly, vitiligo has already made it hard for me to do nearly everything. People are afraid that if they come closer to me they may be infected. My peers never played with me cause they thought I was a little monster with the weird colors on my face and all over my body. Right now, I also have very severe pains in my elbows and shoulders, at least once a day. I am pretty much falling apart! Really hate myself born like this.
You need to see yourself as what you are. Don't let others judge you. If they are afraid because they don't know about the illness, you're enpowered to educate them. If they're doing so and they don't even care to try to understand you, just give up on them. Don't get lost in the idea that you could only make friends with your peers. That's not true. And don't hate yourself. Think of Michael Jackson and the model Winnie Harlow. Your looks do not define you.

Hi Brittany, I think it might be vitiligo too. Can you make an appointment with another different dermatologist? If it is vitiligo, some patches can be cured by itself. You can also apply the treatment below:
Sunscreens
Sun protection measures
Cosmetic camouflage of skin patches
Topical Steroids (glucocorticoids)
Topical photochemotherapy - psoralens and UVA or sunlight exposure
Oral PUVA therapy
