Agoraphobia is diagnosed based on:
  • In-depth interview with your doctor or a mental health professional
  • Signs and symptoms
  • Physical exam to rule out other conditions that could be causing your symptoms
Your doctor will usually treat agoraphobia with therapy, medication, or a combination.
  • Therapy. Cognitive therapy can teach you new ways to think about or face situations that cause panic. Sometimes your therapist may suggest exposure therapy, in which you try to slowly do some of the things that make you anxious.
  • Medicine. There are many drugs that your doctor might suggest for agoraphobia. The most common kinds are antidepressants and anti-anxiety medicines.
  • Lifestyle changes. Exercise regularly and eat a healthy diet. Skip caffeine and alcohol. They can make your symptoms worse.
Great. This sheds immense light on my life-long condition. I am very interested in a trial of the medication. I am a PHYSICIAN (M.D) and consider this a "clinical trial. Please contact me.
