Often called C. difficile or C. diff, Clostridium Difficile Infection is a symptomatic infection due to the spore-forming bacterium. C. difficile occurs in every area of the world and has the chance to occur to everyone because it can be spread by the hands of healthcare workers. C. difficile bacteria are very ubiquitous and can be found nearly everywhere throughout the environment — in soil, air, water, human and animal feces, and food products, such as processed meats. C. difficile infection is most commonly associated with hospitals and other health care facilities where a much higher percentage of people carry the bacteria. Therefore, washing hands and wear proper protective clothes and gloves in hospitals are necessary.
