Anxiety can be genetic. However, other factors such as traumatic events in one's life experience and environment may play a role as well. Research into the link between specific genes and anxiety is still in the preliminary phase. Studies show mixed results. But it's still generally believed that genes play a role. You should know it's not that if you have certain types of genes then you will develop anxiety disorders. Genes only put you at risk. Researchers have discovered that if you have a twin, sibling or parent who suffers panic disorder, you are very likely to develop it as well. Also, environmental factors can cause anxiety.
