There is more than one answer to that question. How long you need to stay in the hospital depends on what type of surgery you have. If you had open surgery, you may have to stay in the hospital for a few days. It will take about 7 weeks before your body fully heal. But if you had laparoscopy, it takes much shorter time for your body to heal. In fact, most patients are able to leave the hospital the same day they have the surgery. It takes about 2 weeks for complete recovery.   Keyword: gallstone surgery recovery
I had gall bladder removed and a liver biopsy done on Monday.  The pain after the anesthesia wore off is horrible.  I put ice packs on the area we’re the pain is worse as that usually reduces the swelling.  I have non-alcoholic fatty liver disease from Darvon and being fat.  The darvon was taken off the market after finding it damaged livers in most patients.  I took it to stop the back pain I had after a car-train wreck left me an inch shorter and two years of recovery from broken back.  I’m allergic to codine and oxycodone as well as morphine and do not want to get hooked on any drugs.  The only pain killer that works is this tramadol but I can’t tolerate more than three of those per day.  The pain I have now in about an 8 on a 10 scale.  No sleep without waking up each hour wanting to scream.
8 on a 10 scale is so much painful. I don't think it's normal otherwise there would have been much less cholecystectomy patients. Did you talk to your doctor to manage the pain?
