Usually, hiatal hernias don't cause any symptom until they grow really big. If you have small hernias, the only way to find out is to undergo medical testing. When your hiatal hernias become larger, stomach acid along with undigested food can move into the esophagus. So you may experience common symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease, or GERD.
