Pink eye, also known as conjunctivitis, is a kind of inflammation or infection on the transparent membrane (conjunctiva) that covers the white part of your eyeball and lines your eyelid. Since the small blood vessels in the conjunctiva are inflamed, they're more visible. Then your eyes appear to be pink or reddish. Both adults and children may get pink eye. The main reason for children to get pink eye is tear duct blocking. For a few hours after tear duct blocking, some children have blood-colored fluid on the eye, which will make them feel uncomfortable. For adults, the reasons they may get pink eye include:
  • Eye inflammation
  • Allergies
  • Viruses
  • Bacteria
  • Chemical ingredients in cosmetics
  • Wearing contact lenses for a long time
