In fact, basal cell skin cancer is called basal cell carcinoma. It is a cancer that grows on parts of your skin that get a lot of sun. Although it's a type of cancer, it is the least risky cancer. Early diagnosis and treatment can make it go away. Symptoms include:
  • A small "pearly" bump that looks like a flesh-colored mole
  • A waxy, hard skin growth
  • A skin growth in a dome shape that has blood vessels in it
Cause: The main cause is Ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun or from a tanning bed. The UV rays attack the DNA in the skin cells which is useful for cell growth. So, damage to the DNA can cause cancer.   Keyword: basal cell skin cancer
I didn't stay in the Sun or tan but I got skin cancer. Why did it happen?
Skin cancer occurs when errors (mutations) occur in the DNA of skin cells. The mutations cause the cells to grow out of control and form a mass of cancer cells. Although sun-exposure is one of the risk factors, skin cancer is not always the result of sun-exposure. Some people inherit genes that make them prone to develop skin cancer without any exposure to the sun’s rays.
