Since lymphedema is a complication of some conventional cancer treatments, several tests and treatments can possibly lead to lymphedema. They include:
  • Lymph node removal
  • Lymph node biopsy
  • Radiation treatment
  • Mastectomy
  • Lumpectomy
  • Use of the drug Tamoxifen
The main cause may be the removal of or damage to lymph glands. The lymphatic system can no longer work well. Lymphedema may occur months or years after the treatment of the cancer.
