Emphysema is a lung disease and patients can find it hard to breathe. The disease has several stages. According to Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease staging system, stages of emphysema include "mild", "moderate", "severe" and "very severe". To figure out the severity of emphysema, a patient may have a test: forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1). It can tell how much air the patient can blow out of the lungs in just 1 second. In the end stage, namely very severe stage or stage IV, the result of FEV1 is less than 30%. Key words: end stage emphysema; final stage emphysema; final stages emphysema; last stages emphysema
