IV hydration is given when patients are significantly dehydrated and unable to orally rehydrate. It's more commonly used to treat children than adults.   When treating a child with IV rehydration, the doctor will usually insert an IV line into a vein in their arm. Various fluids may be involved. Water with a little bit of salt or sugar may be part of IV hydration.   Though there may be risks involved in IV hydration, the risks are low for most people.     Keywords: IV hydration
