Dermatomyositis (DM) is a non-supportive inflammatory lesion that mainly involves the striated muscle and is mainly infiltrated by lymphocytes, with or without multiple skin lesions.
Clinically, it is characterized by the weakness of symmetrical limb muscles, neck muscles, and pharyngeal muscle, often involving other organs such as the skin, lungs, joints and gastrointestinal tract, and may be associated with tumors and other connective tissue diseases.
Dermatomyositis is a rare disease with unclear exact incidence and prevalence. The reported prevalence rate is between 5 and 11 per 100,000 people. It has a bimodal age distribution, that is, 5 to 15 years and 45 to 65 years (adolescent and adult dermatomyositis), and the ration of female to male is approximately 2:1.
