The most common symptoms of dermatomyositis include skin changes and muscle weakness. In most cases, the first symptom is a patchy and bluish-purple skin rash on the face, eyelids, chest, nail cuticle areas, knuckles, knees or elbows. Then you may have muscle weakness starting in the neck, arms or hips, and the weakness can be felt on both sides of your body. And it may get worse over weeks or months. Other signs or symptoms you may encounter are:
  • Ÿ   fatigue
  • Ÿ   fever
  • Ÿ   muscle pain
  • Ÿ   muscle tenderness
  • Ÿ  difficulty in swallowing
  • Ÿ   lung problems
  • Ÿ   unintentional weight loss
  • Ÿ   hard calcium deposits underneath the skin, which is mostly seen in children
Please consult your doctor immediately once you experience any of the above symptoms.   Keywords: dermatomyositis symptoms; symptoms dermatomyositis; early signs dermatomyositis.
