Scarlet fever is a bacterial illness caused by the same type of bacteria that cause strep throat. It is most common in children between 5 to 15 years old, characterized by bright red rash covering most of the body. Scarlet fever was once regarded as a severe childhood illness, if treated with antibiotics, it will be less life-threatening.
