Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) is the most common sarcoma in pediatric patients. Perianal rhabdomyosarcoma (perianal RMS) is a rare type of tumor with high risk and a low cure rate. In these cases, early diagnosis is crucial due to 25% of patients present with metastasis at diagnosed. Meanwhile, sometimes it is misdiagnosed as perirectal or gluteal abscess which delay the diagnosis and treatments. According to the few cases of perianal RMS, these patients have frequent sphincter disorders or anal ulcerations. Due to its rareness, there is no established treatment methods for perianal RMS. Some possible effective treatments may include:
  • Wide first-line curative surgery may be possible but can cause the loss of sphincter function.
  • Conservative complete or partial surgery combined with adjuvant chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy may be possible. But be careful to avoid dermatitis that might cause problems in the subsequent radiotherapy process.
  • Combine brachytherapy with surgery.
