Anaplastic thyroid cancer, also known as anaplastic tumor, is the least common and the most deadly type of thyroid cancer. The cause of the disease is unknown, but in some cases this type of cancer can occur in the setting of differentiated thyroid cancers such as papillary or follicular thyroid cancers. Anaplastic thyroid cancer accounts for only 1% - 5% of all thyroid cancer cases. It is an aggressive disease that grows rapidly. Most people with the condition can’t live one year from the time they are diagnosed. The cancer most commonly occurs in people over 60 years old. Women are at higher risk of it than men. According to American Cancer society, there will be 23,600 new cases of thyroid cancer in the US, of which 17,640 will be in women, and 5,960 in men.   Keywords: anaplastic thyroid cancer     Related FAQs: http://healthtopquestions.com/?p=5249   http://healthtopquestions.com/?p=5215
