It depends. If it’s in the early stage, surgery is definitely the first choice. Here are some approach considerations may be helpful to you:
  • Stage 0 - Excision. In this stage, you should ask help from your dermatologist.
  • Stage I  - Excision, with or without lymph node management. Here the 10-year survival rate ranges from 86 to 95 percent.
  • Stage II - Excision, with or without lymph node management. Here the 10-year survival rate ranges from 57 to 67 percent.
  • Resectable stage III - Excision, with or without lymph node management; adjuvant therapy and immunotherapy. Here the 10-year survival rate ranges from 24 to 68 percent.
  • Unresectable stage III, stage IV, and recurrent melanoma - Intralesional therapy, immunotherapy, signal transduction inhibitors, chemotherapy, palliative local therapy.  In this stage, 10-year survival rate is 10 to 15 percent, according to the American Cancer Society.
