Typical symptoms are: 

  • A sudden onset of severe headache, fever, and stiff neck
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Sensitivity to light
  • Agitation and/or mental status changes
  • Seizures

Neisseria meningitidis is a bacterium that is responsible for causing meningitis and inflammation of the meninges layer. Patients can be left with serious long-term problems including blindness, deafness. 

When affected, you may:

  • Have a high fever 
  • Have a headache
  • Feel stiffness
  • Feel sensitivity to bright lights
  • Drowsines

If you have these symptoms, visit the doctor and the following tests may be required:

  • Blood tests
  • Lumbar puncture
  • CT scan
