Why is my husband acting so strange and not aware of it?

  • 2

My husband for the last month is forgetting more and more what he is doing. He will start a project and then forget about it, move to another and be confused to what got him there. He is taking forever on the smallest task that he has done all his life. He stumbles over everything. Breaks things moving wrong. He has fallen more than I've ever seen. He is running in circles and doing nothing. Example: he goes to put on his socks and shoes and by the time he gets both of those things, he's lost a sock or a shoe and he starts all over. It took him an hour and a half to get his socks and shoes on and 3 hours to totally get dressed, because he would misplace something he was putting on. He has been getting sick like at least once a day or every other day. And he is having troubled sleeping. He is 56 years old and has been known to be an airhead but he has never been this bad. He even thinks I'm trying to confuse him. He is confusing himself and he is a proud man so I can't talk to him about it, because he gets really upset. Should I be worried about blood pressure or heart related problems? He also has been having bad heartburn and headaches also complains about his toes going numb. Please give me direction. I'm getting worried.

You should be worried. Apparently, he had a very serious brain problem. Possible situation: stroke, dementia, mental disorder, Alzheimer's disease. See a neurologist for help.
Does your husband have weird maneuvers? Does he have any liver disease?

The first thing that came to my mind is called hepatic encephalopathy. It is a brain condition that is caused by liver disease. Liver diseases such as cirrhosis prevent the liver from removing ammonia and other harmful substances from the blood. The harmful substances build up in the blood and prevent the brain from working correctly. Early treatment is needed to reverse the damaging effects of this condition and restore proper brain function.
