The good news is that choosing the right snacks may offer you enough energy for the day and help you keep your diabetic diet plan on track as well.

Here are 10 top snack choices for you to boost energy and stay healthy.

Raw almonds

Almonds, rich in healthy mono-saturated fat and magnesium, may help reduce the risk of heart disease for people with diabetes, and reduce the rise in blood sugar levels and insulin levels after meals.

Air-popped popcorn

Air-popped popcorn is an excellent choice for individuals with diabetes. Popcorn is made form corn, a whole grain. It will not impact blood sugar levels dramatically. According to American Diabetes Association (ADA), a serving size of air-popped popcorn is 3 cups.

The ADA has listed cottage cheese, rich in protein but low in carbs, as one of the best cheese choices for diabetes sufferers.

Avocado

If you have diabetes, avocado is another great choice for snacks. Rich fiber and mono-saturated fat contained in avocados may prevent the blood sugar levels from spiking after meals.

Berries

Packed with antioxidants, vitamins, and fiber, berries are listed in the diabetes super foods by ADA. 1 cup or 148 grams of fresh blueberries contain 85 calories and 21.4 grams of carbs according to USDA. It’s difficult to go off base with veggies, but they can begin to taste insipid after a while. Try dipping your vegetables sticks in hummus or Greek yogurt. The dip will keep you feeling satisfied and the veggies will keep your blood sugar level under control.

Edamame

Edamame are unripe, green soybeans that are still in their pods. Some preliminary research suggests that soy protein may help reduce insulin resistance, kidney damage, and fatty liver in people with diabetes. More studies are needed to determine the edamame effects on humans, though, they serve as a great source for diabetic snacks, which is not only nutritious and but also convenient.

Hard-boiled eggs

One large hard-boiled egg offers 6.29g protein and 0.56g carbs. It is a super healthy snack for people with diabetes.
